Journalism & Writing

In 2010, after graduating from university, I began working as a reporter and journalist for the Santa Cruz Sentinel daily newspaper. I worked as a weekend news reporter, wrote features, and covered music entertainment as a freelancer. I left the Sentinel in 2012 to take a role at the Mid-County Post in Capitola, CA, where I immersed myself with a skeleton crew to produce a biweekly paper covering local politics, police, and business. Less than a year later, I moved to Good Times alt weekly, where I advanced from a stint as a regular stringer to the role of Staff Writer. At GT, I wrote regular cover stories that took deep dives into big issues around Santa Cruz County, including homelessness, policing and crime, technology, UC Santa Cruz, and local politics. After GT was purchased by Metro Newspapers in 2014, I left Santa Cruz to travel through South America for seven months. When I returned to Santa Cruz, I began writing with the surf & lifestyle quarterly Waves magazine. While at Waves, I wrote multiple stories for each issue, primarily covering the Monterey Bay marine environment.
